Euro 5
Euro 5, another standard for the limit values of exhaust gases and emission of particles, comes into force as of October 2009. MAN Nutzfahrzeuge has not only offered solutions for Euro 5 since the start of 2006, but is continuing to develop further in this area.
TGX and TGS: The choice is yours
In the TGX and TGS heavy model series, as customer you have the choice in future of either MAN PURE DIESEL® technology; the new, efficient Euro 5 EGR engines without additives* with a specification ranging from 320 to 480 HP or SCR technology equipped with MAN AdBlue® with powerful engines ranging from 480 to 540 HP.
MAN PURE DIESEL® on the TGL and TGM
In the lightweight and medium-weight TGL and TGM model series, in all power levels from 150 to 340 HP we offer you the straightforward MAN PURE DIESEL® technology for Euro 5 with exhaust-gas recirculation in all power levels. Customers, whose vehicles are used in particularly environmentally-sensitive zones can also order EEV-certified vehicles.
MAN PURE DIESEL® technology*
The new vehicle engines are technical masterpieces: highly efficient and very powerful, they work extremely reliably and smoothly. At the focal point of this engine generation is the state-of-the-art, lambda-controlled exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) technology – with return rates of 30 percent and over.
The EGR rate in conjunction with improved cooling of the return gases provides for a lower fresh air/exhaust mixture temperature in the cylinder – therefore fewer nitrogen oxides are produced already during combustion. Thanks to EGR regulation with the aid of a lambda probe, the optimum EGR rate is set for each operating point of the engine even under dynamic conditions.
This guarantees a particularly high level of efficiency and exceptional economy with expensive diesel fuel.
MAN AdBlue® technology
The MAN AdBlue® technology with SCR reduces emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in a “downstream” ceramic catalytic converter, the so-called “SCR-Kat”.
AdBlue® is used here, a pure, harmless, water-clear, synthetically manufactured 32.5 % urea solution. The agent is sprayed into the exhaust gas flow and converts the oxides in the catalytic converter into water vapour and elementary nitrogen - the natural component of air.
MAN AdBlue® reduces nitrogen oxides by approximately 90 %, while not impairing the engine output. The technology also permits a reduction in the emission of particles as prescribed by Euro 5.
