MAN PM-KAT®: particle separation on flowing through the particulate filter
New exhaust gas limit values have been in force for all newly registered vehicles since autumn 2006. Vehicles from MAN comply with the prescribed standard with two modern solutions: by means of an extension to the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and the particulate filter MAN PM-KAT®.
The cooled EGR used by MAN reduces the nitrous oxide (NOx) proportion of the exhaust gases inside the engine to the extremely low limit values required by Euro 4.
The MAN PM-KAT® is a 'particulate separation system' in the stainless steel muffler of the vehicle. It cannot clog, does not require maintenance and gets by without additional fuel. The technology reduces the damaging particles by 60 %. Even microscopic particles are eliminated by the MAN PM-KAT® by up to 80 % to 90 %, i.e. peak values. The filter already ensures that the particle values prescribed for Euro 5 are adhered to.

¹ SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology and AdBlue® enable the conversion of damaging nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas into water vapour and elementary nitrogen, the natural component of air AdBlue® is not a hazardous material, rather a pure, water-clear, synthetically manufactured 32.5 % urea solution.
